💡 3 Tips For Nailing Your Ad Hook for Reels
Want to improve your Reel performance?
It all starts with a strong hook.
A final product is only as tasty as the ingredients you put into it.
So here are some key ingredients you need for your Reels to lure in your target audience.
1️⃣ Hone Your Message. The easiest way to hook viewers is to write a targeted message using text overlay for an implicit or explicit audience and connect the product feature to a human need or benefit.
👉 Don't forget to tease content that lives beyond the 0.3 mark to increase watch time.
2️⃣ Create a Thumb-Stopping Visual! The cover image is important and should entice viewers to click, so make it eye-catching!
👉 “Starting your reel with a physical action is much more attention-grabbing. Wave an arm, jump up and down, get viewers excited,” explains Avery, Lead Content Manager at Pilothouse and Podcast host of Ad-venturous.
Or… show someone having an emotional reaction when they use your product or service, so others are interested in learning more about your product's transformative powers.
3️⃣ Don't Forget Audio. Good visuals are key, but your video also needs to optimize for a sound-on experience.
👉 If you don't have original audio, find a trending audio that supports the story you are trying to tell.
The takeaway?
Look at your current ad hooks and see if you are missing any of these elements.
Don't hold back. A good Reel is all about your ability to be creative and create something that disrupts mindless scrolling.

Let’s talk ad creatives.
Right now, we are sitting at one of the most interesting intersections in marketing history.
And no, I’m not just saying that to drive a sense of urgency and force you to listen to my new podcast (but if you’d like to, it's called Ad-venturous and you can listen to the first episode below 😉).
We all make way more ads than we ever have before but…. Are they actually good?
Are they building up and reinforcing our brand stories?
Are they also driving conversions and leading up your big dreams of scale and growth?
You might think the answer for your own brand is yes…. But I do many audits for many brands, and let me tell you, the answer is often a resounding NO.
As I navigate the aforementioned interesting intersection, I’ve been repeatedly checking the proverbial rearview mirror to ensure I don’t crash as I navigate it all.
Looking back to ads I used to love has helped me formulate strategies for the brands I work with to thrive in this new cultural landscape and beyond.
By noting the type of angles that have been long-lasting, the processes they had back then, and the way old school marketing used to champion creativity and artistry, we can better equip ourselves and our brands to really dominate feeds and inboxes for a long time.
